PORTALS

This work interprets natural forms, perspectives, and materials. Over time, a recurring element began to surface in much of this work--what I refer to simply as “holes.”

Are holes an absence or a presence? I began to see holes as thresholds. Entrance and exit points—evoking the idea of transitioning between two worlds. They are portals: from safety to threat, from the familiar to the unknown, from order to chaos, and back again. I believe this transitory process is ongoing and inherent to all living beings.

Portals/holes open up to both the light and the dark, the concrete and the ambiguous. From an opening, everything living thing is born.
