Suzanne Skon is a mixed media visual artist who has been working in the Twin Cities area since 1992, and earned her BA from the University of Iowa. She has shown her work in various local and regional galleries and juried exhibitions, including the Plains Art Museum in North Dakota, the Catherine Murphy Gallery at the College of St. Catherine, the Paul Larson Gallery at the University of Minnesota, Premier Gallery (Minneapolis), the Arrowhead Biennial at the Duluth Art Institute, the Inez Greenburg Gallery at the Bloomington Art Center, and the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Other venues include: The University of Minnesota-Morris, St. Paul College of Visual Arts, Phipps Center for the Arts, Hopkins Center for the Arts, the Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art, and Intermedia Arts. Suzanne was a second-round finalist in the Northeast Minneapolis Art Association’s Wintertide Biennial Juried Exhibition in Minneapolis in both 2019 and 2014.
In 2007, Suzanne and colleague Carmen Gutierrez-Bolger co-conceived and curated a 44-artist collaborative installation, and produced and designed a 134-page book entitled The Hand to Hand Project: A Collaboration. The project debuted in 2008 at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. She also served as a mentor for MCBA’s By Design program for young adults.
Suzanne and her work have been featured on the MN Channel of Twin Cities Public Television’s “Three-Minute Egg,” the University of Iowa’s “Daily Palette,” and on Iowa Artists: Des Moines Art. Publications and other media featuring her work include the Book Arts Newsletter (UWE Bristol School of Creative Arts), Minnesota Monthly magazine, and Exhibition Scene (Arts Scene Iowa).
Since 2004, Suzanne has regularly participated in NEMAA’s annual events, including Art-A-Whirl, the Fall Fine Arts Show, and Open Casket.
Suzanne currently works from her studio in Northeast Minneapolis at the Casket Arts Building.
