PLACES/HERE
These photo/paint collages reflect my individual perception of places that have the most meaning and memory for me. They function as a visual diary of my explorations both locally and regionally, and convey the passage of time.
I photograph images of a place over time--periods of hours, days, weeks or months. I deconstruct the photos, then re-juxtapose the varying viewpoints and perspectives, creating a new composition that depicts the elements of a place I find most compelling. Paint both unifies and differentiates the cut-and-pasted substrates of these works. The linear and irregular grid serves as both a formal structure for the compositions, and as a metaphor for the technological grid to which most of us are dependent upon—separate “pixels” of our visual world that make up the whole.
new work/excursions
These new collage and oil paintings are part of a series entitled Excursions: Snow, Sunlight, and Shadow. They express the simplicity and solitude of this past winter, when the world was very quiet.
