BECOMING
The making of these works heightened my contemplation of nature and its cyclical processes. My foray from two-dimensional into three-dimensional works was borne out of necessity. I made models to serve as visual references for the drawings and paintings I wished to do, which were often of hybrid forms inspired by nature that existed mainly in my head. These models became the sculptures and installations that insisted that I begin to see quotidian objects and materials in new ways. Many iterations of work from these models challenged me to learn unfamiliar and exciting processes.
These cocoons, webs, pods, nests, and hives explore the internal architecture that exists in natural forms, as well as the relationship between builder and that which is being built. Embryonic forms speak to the origin of life, potentiality and the cycle of continuity, while other aspects of the work seem abandoned by time.
